Watched this on Saturday night. Very disappointed. And the mentioning of Daemon (pronounced as Demon) really stirred up some issues among Catholics Community. I agree with the Catholics as the movie will mislead children about the real meaning of Demon. And the main character Lyra, the kid with the compass, she really set a bad example for kids. She is practically lie-ing her way through every obstacle she faced. I like Samwise Gamgee and Frodo Baggins better. Their character and personality is really Good, compared to Lyra.
The Plus side of the movie is all the nice computer animated graphics. Basically the actors are all acting behind green screen most of the time. Nicole Kidman is beautiful and elegant. But that's all about it.
Overall, this movie is a no no for kids.

I am going to watch it tmr....anyway, even it is not as good as you thought, at least it is worth for the graphic i suppose. I like Nicole Kidman... so, for me, i get to see her acting again...
it is a big dissapointed when they claims this is another production from the LOTR team, (this is how they advertise if i m not mistaken) nothing close to LOTR, and I felt bored with the story lines. The only interesting part is the Polar Bear I guess, coz I have never thought a Polar bear can play such an important role in movie.

Yup, Nicole is really beautiful, Tom Cruise was really stupid to let her go. All her dress in the movie also very nice.

The Polar Bear is Ian Mckellen, the Gandalf of LOTR.
Well, I like the scenes when the Polar Bear fights, although the ending of the scene is a bit unthinkable.
And the Bear fighthing is really simillar to Tekken 5 I am playing.
well, will still go and watched though.. anyway will not set high expectations already, that should be fine just for entertainment..
Watched it yesterday nite. Not that bad in fact. However, as mentioned by you, i really like they way they named ones soul mate as Daemon. Cant they named it something like "spirit", "soul".....
